Hair Transplant Surgery Surgery

Anyone considering hair transplant surgery will probably have been through the whole rigmarole of medications, massage or laser therapies and vitamin or herbal supplements to help combat hair loss. While some of these may have been successful for a period or to some degree, you've recognized that they are not a viable long term solution to your hair loss problem.

Hair transplant surgery is just what it sounds like. It is an actual surgery and carries risks as do other surgeries and requires a healing and recovery period, too. However, it is one of the more effective ways of creating hair growth naturally on your scalp. But what is involved in this type of surgery?

In order to be a candidate for hair transplant surgery, you need to have regions of the scalp that have good hair growth. From these areas strips of skin will be taken with their hair follicles in place. These strips of skin are then transplanted around the scalp in the areas where hair growth is needed.

Current methods allow for stitching of the sites in ways that lead to minimal and almost undetectable scarring. This is most helpful in maintaining the natural look you want.

There are also new methods of follicular unit transplantation wherein follicles are transplanted in naturally occurring units which gives a very natural look as well.

Some things to be aware of and which your doctor is sure to discuss with you prior to surgery, is the fact that you will need to allow some time for the scalp to heal. The incisions may be sore and swollen and will need to be cared for.

Also, hair transplant surgery will not give you insta-hair! Once the skin is transplanted, those poor follicles will experience shock from their removal. This will cause the hair to fall out. More hair loss! You thought you were done with hair loss! But don't worry, this is only temporary. Within a few months after surgery your hair will have grown in thick and beautiful! You will have your hair back!.

Years after surgery some hair loss may be experienced again. Patchiness that results from this hair loss may need to be treated by another hair transplant.

Hair transplant surgery is not the best option for everyone. Your doctor will know how best to advise you based on your previous medical history and the type of hair loss you are experiencing. Stick to the doctor's advice and be sure to look deeper into any decision before you make it.

If you do want to steer clear of a medical procedure, you might take a look at non-surgical hair replacement. This is where you have a very thin membrane implanted with hair glued to your head. It is almost impossible to detect and can be worn for a month at a time and then replaced after washing at that point. If you're looking for natural hair growth, though, hair transplant surgery is the better option.
