Hair Loss Replacement: Getting Back What's Rightfully Yours

Genetics don't seem to play fair. For some reason, four in seven people, mostly men, are singled out and slammed with a baldness gene. How is that fair? You are not given any choice! There is no cure or drug that can permanently counteract or prevent the affects of hair loss.

There are some drugs that can be used to help promote hair growth during the course of use, though. There are laser and massage treatments that can also stimulate the follicles to produce hair, and a low-stress, aerobically active lifestyle can keep hair loss down, but even all of these treatments put together won't work for everyone and are not considered lasting solutions.

Hair loss replacement treatments are some of the best ways for a more permanent solution in those who have had little success with other treatments. There are a few different types of hair loss replacements we will discuss here, surgical and non-surgical.

Surgical hair loss restoration is done by a hair transplant. This is most often conducted in either one 4 or more hour session or a few shorter sessions. In order to undergo hair transplant, you need to have areas of the scalp that are still producing hair in good number.

With this type of hair loss replacement, thins strips of skin are taken from the lower part of the scalp where the hair is growing normally. These patches of skin are then transplanted to parts of the scalp where hair loss is a problem.

In the newest surgical procedures the hair follicles can be transplanted in their natural groupings which gives a very natural appearance to the transplant and is a highly effective procedure.

This kind of hair loss restoration is quite pricey. As a surgery it also requires recovery time and comes with some risk. Initially the hair will fall out of the transplant because of the shock, but it will grow again and in a matter of months you will have a full head of hair. However, with time new, untreated patches may begin balding and you may need to undergo further surgery.

There is also a non-surgical hair replacement procedure. Replacing bulky, fake looking hair pieces of the past is a much more natural looking and durable method. With this type of hair replacement, a layer of polyurethane is attached to the scalp. It is thin and transparent and is attached so tightly that it is like a second skin.

This membrane is implanted with hair, either human or synthetic. It is specially prepared for the individual taking into consideration the color and texture of the hair as well as the direction of growth. Creating the membrane is truly a work of art.

A major benefit of non-surgical hair replacement is that it is non invasive and, much better than hair pieces it is just like your normal hair and you can swim and sweat and be as active as you like because of the porous nature of the membrane. On the down side, it it needs to be removed, washed and replaced every month or so.

The different hair loss replacements provide options for regaining that full head of hair that you have been robbed of. Your doctor can help you make the best decision.
