Coping with Balding Hair Loss

Most everyone looks ahead to aging with some degree of dread. We feel we are who we are and changes that might come to our health and appearance because of age are unwelcome. They even seem a bit intrusive; even though we are aware they are natural. We just want to stay the way we are!

Unfortunately those changes do come. Our skin loses it's elasticity and begins to wrinkle or sag. Our energy levels may decrease and the shine may go out of our hair and eyes. Speaking of hair, for some, the sight of the first gray one can feel like the moment of doom. For many men the realization that their hair isn't as thick as it once was can be a real downer.

Although all these signs of aging will come, there are many simple things that can be done to counteract them. Creams and lotions can help give the skin back some of its firmness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Hair can be dyed to cover graying and help bring back the shine. But what about balding? What can be done there?

In baldness hair loss may not be a problem for some until they are close to retirement age, at which point those clear signs of aging are rather expected. However, this is not always the case. In male pattern baldness hair loss may occur as early as just after puberty ends!

Probably the most common time that men dread the appearance of signs of balding is in the thirties. About 25% of men do begin losing their hair at this time of life, with that number increasing to two-thirds by the age of sixty. A man in his thirties still feels he has his life ahead of him. As a matter of fact, he's probably at his prime. Balding is generally unwelcome by men of this age.

Although baldness is hereditary and therefore gene linked, our actions can affect the degree of hair loss we experience. A poor diet can contribute to hair loss. High levels of stress have been proven to increase hair loss.

Androgens levels in the body of those prone to balding are too high. The hormone DHT for some as yet unknown reason causes the follicles in the scalp to miniaturize. This leads them to grow very fine, short hairs (peach fuzz) or to grow no hairs at all.

Aerobic exercise has been proven to naturally reduce the levels of androgens, especially free testosterone. This is a great way to improve your health and decrease stress levels, as well as naturally fight against baldness hair loss. Also, certain vitamins have proven to help stimulate hair growth, such as vitamin E. Vitamins B and C as well as some others can also be helpful.

Signs of aging will come. For those who've inherited the gene, baldness will be one of them. There are, of course, some more drastic medical measures that can be taken to battle baldness, but first give these tips a try and see if you can't slow down the process by simple and healthy lifestyle changes.
